Developed in 2000, under QX Technologies, Aecon has developed a full-service Locates division which locates underground utilities as a pre-construction damage prevention measure. Locating all underground utilities during a single site visit, it is an approved locate contractor for Toronto Hydro, Bell Canada, Enbridge Gas, and Union Gas.

Not only does Aecon build network infrastructure, but we conduct self locates and locates for the other utilities. Having Aecon as your locate service prime means a significant reduction in time delay on day to day projects, but perhaps more importantly, it virtually eliminates delays as it relates to emergency restoration work. The quicker we respond the better you look to you clients! QX Locates was started as a pilot project specifically to expedite the locate process for Aecon dig crews. The division has been growing ever since and has evolved into the premier locator in the Ontario, with over 60 resources in the province. Qx Locates was recently awarded the contracts to provide locate services for Bell Canada, Enbridge and Union Gas in the 416 and 705 area codes as part of their joint “Locate Alliance Consortium”.

In addition, commencing February 1st, 2006 QX Locates will be the locate service provider for Bell Canada and Enbridge in the 416 area, and Bell Canada and Union Gas in the 705 area. Through QX Locates, Aecon Utilities has now undertaken “self locating” on our projects in some areas of Ontario. This reduces time and Aecon assumes the associated risks, and ultimately improves efficiency, where others cannot.
