Municipal Road and Infrastructure Construction
Our primary service market for road construction is municipal road and infrastructure construction. We are also one of the Ottawa areas best asphalt paving services companies. Out asphalt paving services are fully supported by our materials engineering department, which does asphalt testing and mix design, has one of the top rated certified laboratories in the province. An in house survey crew handles all the project layouts.
With respect to commercial site development we typically provide site services such as building site excavation, sewer & water installations, granular work, asphalt paving, and overall site completion. In addition we offer utility installation services such as gas, hydro, and telecommunications.
Aggregates Division
With more than 200 million tonnes of reserves, the Karson Group has enough aggregates to last for at least 100 years. We serve primarily the Ottawa and eastern Ontario markets.
Our aggregates are available for roadbeds, asphalt paving, and ready-mix concrete. Our sand is available for construction, concrete production, landscaping, and golf course construction.
Our aggregate facilities are as follows:
3 limestone quarries in current production
1 additional quarry available for production
7 sand pits
25 trucks available for delivery
High Quality Sand
It should be noted that several of the Karson Group sand pits have deposits of “non-calcareous” sand. This particular sand has uniformed grains which stops it from clumping. This sand makes for wonderful drainage and is desired by the golf industry for construction of their greens and sand bunkers.
Aggregate Laboratories
The Karson Group has 2 laboratories:
For aggregate and asphalt testing
For soil testing
The aggregate and asphalt laboratory, which is certified by the CCIL, also designs mixes for our asphalt division. The soils laboratory is currently being certified the United States Golf Association, which will make it the only USGA certified laboratory in Canada and one of only fifteen worldwide.
