Aecon’s statement on the passing of Paul Koenderman

Feb 1, 2016

It is with heavy hearts that we share news of the sudden passing of our esteemed friend and colleague, Paul Koenderman, following a tragic car accident last week.

Paul is well known to the Aecon family as a leader and a visionary. He played an integral role in the evolution of the company, having joined Aecon in 2003 with more than four decades of experience in the industrial engineering industry. Paul was instrumental in the foundational development of Aecon’s nuclear business, while also driving the substantial growth of our Energy segment in western Canada. Paul’s handprint is firmly planted on Aecon Energy’s ascent to becoming the top-tier industrial contractor we are today.

As an Aecon leader, Paul held increasingly senior roles within our company, including that of Executive Chairman of our Industrial group and Executive Vice President of Aecon Group Inc., most recently he held the role of Executive Advisor.  To the Aecon family, Paul was known as an exceptional mentor who took many young leaders under his tutelage and helped guide their career growth and knowledge of the business.

“Paul’s leadership and contributions leave a lasting legacy in our organization and he will be dearly missed,” said Teri McKibbon, President and CEO, Aecon Group Inc. “We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends as we share in their loss during this incredibly difficult time.”
