Britannia – Water Treatment Plant

Aecon was awarded this $20 million design-build, lump sum contract by EPCOR Water Services to design and build a water treatment plant in British Columbia. The facility is located on the site of the former Britannia Mine and was specifically designed to clean up one of the largest metal pollution sources in North America. The former copper, zinc and pyrite mine site is located 48 km north of Vancouver, adjacent to the fjord of Howe Sound. Although mining activity ceased in 1974, evidence of water pollution continued. Aecon completed the new water treatment plant to address those issues in 2005.
