Aecon, in a joint venture with Black & Veatch, constructed this natural gas-fired electrical generating plant for client Northland Power Inc. in Spy Hill, Saskatchewan. The power plant is specifically designed to supply peaking power during particularly high electrical demand times.
Aecon, which owned 60% of the joint venture, provided project management and construction services for the $60 Million contract, including civil, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation installation work.
Black & Veatch, a U.S–based engineering, consulting and construction company, provided the balance of plant engineering, including integration of the gas turbines and engineered equipment procurement, as well as plant start–up management and commissioning.
Completion of the Spy Hill Peaking Plant was reached in October, 2011.
