Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity produces stronger problem-solvers, stronger collaborators, stronger teammates and stronger contributors for our clients and partners.

Recruiting and retaining the best talent our industry has to offer and embracing the unique perspectives that come from variations in lived experience and identities makes us stronger. We are proud to build a workforce as dynamic and diverse as the communities in which we live and work.

Dynamic and Diverse

We’re proud of the innovative partnerships we’ve established with local communities and proud of the lasting impact spending time with people in these communities leaves with our employees, long after our projects conclude.

Our Diversity & Inclusion Council (made up of both leadership and employees) guides and champions our efforts to build diverse and inclusive workplaces for all. It informs our collective efforts to bring lasting, meaningful change to the biases that still sometimes limit our industry, and those within it.

Women continue to be disproportionately underrepresented in our industry, particularly in engineering, technical and trades roles. Aecon is committed to changing this.

Innovative programs like Aecon Women in Trades create and expand opportunities for women to enter careers in our industry, and initiatives such as aWIN help them build thriving, successful careers once they do.

AWIN logo

aWIN is a grassroots community for female employees and their allies, committed to building community, driving career development, and championing the advancement of women at Aecon and across our industry. Our aWIN community, including many of our senior female leaders, are passionate community ambassadors; visiting local schools, sponsoring and participating in community events, and attending speaking engagements that encourage girls and young women to pursue interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) and trades.

Internally, aWIN regularly hosts networking and mentoring sessions, discussion groups, and learning sessions to empower, inspire and support one another.

And, our aWIN members are notoriously generous with their time and spirit, taking on fundraising and community benefit initiatives to support and uplift women in our communities across the country. Our male employees also play a key role – from attending aWIN events and hosting mentoring sessions, to being visible, vocal allies in creating robust pathways to leadership for women at Aecon and across our industry.

Aecon is proud to be a member-supporter of the following partners:

Jan, Aecon employee
“We are all unique with our own set of experiences and history. We each have something to bring to the table, but we first need to have an opportunity to sit at the table and make sure our contributions are heard and understood. Aecon’s Diversity & Inclusion Council is a step in the right direction and it’s a privilege to be a part of this change.”
