Spotlight on Geoexchange

Toronto, Ontario

Aecon Utilities has recently moved into the commercial geoexchange industry – an energy efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional oil-gas or coal-fired heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system that is based on basic heat transfer principles.

Taking advantage of the ground’s heating and cooling properties to heat or cool entire buildings, or the “heat exchange” between the ground and the building, is accomplished by using pump and compressor technology. Geoexchange systems have the capacity to reduce a typical commercial building’s greenhouse gas emissions by more than 50% while providing over 70% of the building’s heating load.
