Aecon-Golden Mile is an innovative joint venture to expand economic opportunities for residents of the Greater Golden Mile area in Toronto that are facing barriers to the labour market.
Aecon-Golden Mile (A-GM) is a partnership between Aecon and the Centre for Inclusive Economic Opportunity (CIEO). A-GM is majority-owned by CIEO (51%) and eventually will be operated and staffed by local residents. A-GM strives to be a first-choice employer and contractor for the redevelopment of the Golden Mile area. The area along Eglinton Avenue East between Victoria Park and Birchmount alone will be redeveloped with over 75 towers containing more than 30,000 residential units and hundreds of thousands of square feet of retail and office space over the next few decades.
A-GM prioritizes hiring and training residents from Greater Golden Mile postal codes: M4A, M3C, M1L, M1K, M1J
The success of A-GM boasts economic opportunity for the entire community providing countless benefits for Golden Mile residents.
A-GM provides established pathways to impactful careers in construction and infrastructure with opportunities for advancement.
A-GM reinvests profits back in the Golden Mile community through the Centre for Inclusive Economic Opportunity (CIEO)
Many of our positions do not require previous construction experience. A-GM hires and trains workers from the Greater Golden Mile and successful candidates receive tailored job training, competitive pay and opportunities for advancement. We encourage applications from traditionally underrepresented groups in the construction industry including Women, Black, Indigenous, People of Colour (BIPOC) and newcomers to Canada.
Aecon-Golden Mile (A-GM) has recently been identified as a ‘preferred vendor’ in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kilmer Group for Hydrovac services. Kilmer Group is developing purpose-built rental projects in the West Don Lands as part of a developer consortium that includes Dream Unlimited and Tricon Residential. A-GM is recruiting Greater Golden Mile residents for these unionized construction jobs, with the intention of building up a stable construction workforce from the community.
Not-for-profit founded by 10 community organizations to expand economic opportunities for local residents. CIEO’s founding members have deep roots in the community and offer a breadth of services that position CIEO as a well-connected and reliable partner.
