Aecon’s Indigenous strategy supports the inclusion, engagement and participation of Indigenous communities. We work side by side with community leaders and members to create and nurture mutually beneficial relationships, while acting as a responsible and respectful business partner.

Reconciliation Action Plan

Aecon’s vision is to be an industry leader in advancing Reconciliation and co-creating opportunities that provide sustainable and beneficial relationships aligned with the priorities and objectives of Indigenous peoples.

As an acknowledgement of Call to Action #92 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, Aecon adopted a Reconciliation Action Plan in 2022.

Since then, we have deepened relationships with Indigenous communities, expanded cultural awareness across our organization, and taken tangible steps to embed truth and reconciliation into our business practices. Our Mission

Lead and inspire the Aecon community to participate in the development, implementation and execution of tangible actions of the Reconciliation Action Plan.

Aecon is proud to have acheived Gold Certification in Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations from the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business - the highest level of recognition awarded under the program.

This certificaiton follows a rigorous indpendent assessment of our leadership, employment, business development, and community relationship practices. Achieving Gold reflects the integration of Indigenous relations across our business, supported by mature practices and measurable outcomes.

PAIR helps us translate the commitment in our Reconciliation Action Plan into practice. It reinforces our credibility on projects where Indigenous participation and community support are important to success. It also provides the governance and measurement needed to turn those commitments into measurable results, and embeds Indigenous considerations into procurement, pursuits, workforce planning and project delivery through consistent processes rather than individual champions - strengthening continuity and capability across our business.

BHP Jansen Potash – Wet Mill Area Stage 1

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Wicehtowak Aecon Industrial Limited Partnership, a partnership between George Gordon Developments Ltd. (“GGDL”), an Indigenous-owned and operated business, and Aecon, will deliver the Wet Mill Area for Stage 1 of BHP Canada’s Jansen Potash project about 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Oneida Energy Storage

Nanticoke, Ontario

The project is the largest of its kind in Canada and amongst the largest in the world. It will deliver a 250 megawatt / 1,000 megawatt-hour energy storage facility – ensuring the supply of clean, reliable electricity capacity for Ontario while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 4.1 million tonnes – the equivalent of taking 40,000 cars off the road every year.
