Aecon-Six Nations (A6N) is a successful joint venture between Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation and Aecon. The Six Nations of the Grand River is comprised of the Mohawk, Seneca, Oneida, Cayuga, Onondaga and Tuscarora nations, representing the largest population of all First Nations in Canada. A6N is majority owned by the Six Nations and operates across Ontario, with a specific focus within the Haldimand Tract, an area of historical significance to the people of Six Nations. A6N provides a broad range of utility-related work within the gas, fibre, forestry and hydro sectors and currently employs over 80 Indigenous employees at the peak of construction season. A6N’s work includes:

  • Grading, excavation, and drainage installation, as well as management of supplementary work for the installation of secondary spill containment systems around the 5MVA padmount transformer foundations on the Oneida Energy Storage Project;
  • Installation of 21 kilometres of pipeline to extend a watermain to provide potable drinking water to two public schools located on the Six Nations reserve;
  • Hydro One’s installation of the Niagara Reinforcement Hydro Transmission Line;
  • Bell Fibre Optic Internet installation for residents across Southwestern Ontario;
  • Enbridge directional drilling services, Hydro Vac services and forestry clearing across the province;
  • Ministry of Transportation Ontario/Capital Paving, Highway 7 expansion of nine hectares; and
  • Six Nations Landfill and Transfer Station operates a 10-truck Hydro Vac fleet across Canada.

This project in MacTier, Ontario consisted of constructing an 11L/S sand filter water treatment, an elevated composite water storage tank with 580-cubic metre capacity, more than 9,000LM of HDPE watermain (150mm to 300mm diameter) and 83 services, totalling approximately 3,000LM.
