Quito International Airport

A winner of multiple industry awards, this state-of-the-art airport is an engine of economic growth for Ecuador.

This project included the design, financing, construction and operation of a new US $414 million airport in Ecuador’s capital city, Quito. The airport features include a 4,100m runway, 409,028 ft² passenger terminal building and 365,972 ft² of ancillary buildings, with a world-class control tower, cargo hangar and related aviation facilities.

Scope of work also included an integrated communications network with embedded VoIP, control centres, CCTV surveillance and access control, as well as building automation and ERP systems, electrical and lighting, HVAC, Air Traffic Control (ATC) and sophisticated navigation equipment.

Aecon led the development of this project which included negotiations with the Government of Ecuador, as well as structuring and negotiating complex financial agreements with four international financial institutions. Aecon also led the formation of the project’s sponsor group and played a significant role in managing the concessionaire and providing overall project management. Aecon led this construction joint venture with its Brazilian partner, Andrade Gutierrez S.A.

On December 10, 2015, Aecon completed the sale of its 45.5 per cent interest in the concessionaire, Corporaciσn Quiport S.A. (Quiport), for US$232.6 million to Grupo Odinsa S.A. and CCR S.A.
