Aecon Awarded $60 Million Contract for Work on QEW in Ontario

One of the largest tendered contracts ever let by MTO --

Toronto, Ontario – October 5, 2005: Aecon Group Inc. (TSX: ARE) today announced that its Aecon Civil and Utilities division has been awarded a $59.8 million contract by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario ("MTO") for work on the Queen Elizabeth Way ("QEW") in the Hamilton area.

The contract will complete the QEW and Red Hill Valley Parkway interchange. Work includes widening along a six kilometre stretch of the QEW and construction of a new interchange at Burlington Street including removal of the existing Burlington Street Interchange. The work also involves construction of seven new bridges and removal of two old bridges as well as grading, drainage, paving, erection of concrete median barrier walls and highway illumination.

Construction on the project began in September 2005 and completion is scheduled for the summer of 2009.
