Aecon joint venture awarded $54 million contract for new alignment of Highway 11 at Burk's Falls

Toronto, Ontario, June 23 2006 : Aecon Group Inc. (TSX: ARE) announced today that it has secured a $54.0 million contract from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation to construct a portion of Highway 11 at Burk's Falls, in a 50/50 joint venture with Leo Alarie and Sons Ltd.

The contract involves the grading and blasting of 11.4 km of new alignment for Highway 11, as well as the construction of eight bridges including four river crossings, two overpasses and two pipeline crossings.

The project will require the transfer of 772,000 cubic metres of earth, 378,000 cubic metres of rock excavation, 420,000 cubic metres of granulars, and 10,000 cubic metres of concrete for structures and culverts. Construction on the project is scheduled for completion in October, 2008.
