Aecon Women in Trades Program Helping Women ‘Trade Up’ and Launch Rewarding Careers in Construction

Sep 16, 2022

Recruitment ongoing for cohorts across Ontario

Building on its industry-recognized success, the Aecon Women in Trades (AWIT) program is actively recruiting for ongoing cohorts across Ontario. The steadily expanding program helps women trade up and launch rewarding careers in the trades with fully paid training, and competitive wages and benefits.

The AWIT program is open to candidates with any employment background and no experience is required. Upon completing comprehensive training for in-demand skills, successful candidates are deployed in the field to hone their craft on a job site, benefiting from ongoing career development opportunities and mentoring as part of the Aecon team. Women in the program complete placements within Ontario in roles such as Utility/General Labourer, Directional Driller, and Locator – just to name a few.

“Women are disproportionately underrepresented in our industry. As we continue to see enhanced competition for talent, Aecon remains agile through challenging market and labour environments,” said Jenna Wood, Senior Director, HR for Aecon’s Utilities, Industrial and Nuclear sectors. “Our AWIT program is an illustration of this approach in action, and it has become a model of success in our industry while making Aecon’s team stronger through diversity.”

Launched in 2019, the program has made significant progress in bringing more women into the trades’ workforce, helping them thrive and achieve continued success. LiUNA! has been a key partner for Aecon in the development of the AWIT program since its inception, providing foundational training to participants before they begin field placements with Aecon. Earlier this month, Aecon was proud to receive the Vic Soncin Employer Recognition Award from LiUNA! – recognizing its commitment to the skilled trades and diversity through the AWIT program.

As a first-choice employer, Aecon is looking for talented and diverse individuals to build what matters and help future generations thrive.

Interested applicants are encouraged to send their resume to AWIT@aecon.com for further information or apply through the job posting at aecon.com/careers.
