Mohawk Networks LLC (“Mohawk Networks”), an enterprise of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, and Aecon Utilities are pleased to announce that they have formed the Aecon-Mohawk Networks Joint Venture (“Aecon-Mohawk Networks”) to provide an Indigenous-led solution for utilities-related work in the United States. Mohawk Networks will hold a majority interest in the partnership.
Combining the telecommunications and broadband expertise of Mohawk Networks with Aecon Utilities’ comprehensive experience executing a diverse range of utility-related projects across North America, Aecon-Mohawk Networks will initially focus on delivering middle mile and last mile broadband to unserved and underserved Indigenous communities in the U.S. Based in the State of New York, Mohawk Networks was founded in 2015 and has connected hundreds of businesses, anchor institutions, and residents to reliable, cost-effective broadband voice and video services. Together, Aecon-Mohawk Networks will utilize its collective expertise to grow its client base and operating footprint across the U.S.
“We look forward to deepening our relationship with the Mohawk community of Akwesasne and Mohawk Networks as this partnership evolves while connecting communities through essential broadband infrastructure and creating lasting benefits for generations to come," said Dereck Oikawa, Senior Vice President, U.S. Operations, Aecon Utilities.
“We have proudly supported economic advancement and wealth creation in Indigenous communities for decades, and we are pleased to continue extending this priority in the U.S. by collaboratively seeking opportunities to partner with local and Indigenous communities,” said Jennifer Campeau, Vice President, Indigenous Relations, Aecon.
"The Aecon-Mohawk Networks JV will help advance digital infrastructure in Indigenous communities," said Allyson Mitchell, General Manager, Mohawk Networks. "We chose to partner with Aecon for their deep commitment to Indigenous communities, a commitment that aligns with our vision. Together, we are focused on connecting the 'forgotten mile,' establishing essential infrastructure in Indigenous communities where the next wave of leaders – our teachers, engineers, aviators, scientists, artists, and linguists – can develop, without borders. Through broadband, we are threading generations together, preserving invaluable language and culture, and forging connections to e-commerce that link our heritage with the innovations of tomorrow."
