Aecon celebrates opening of the new stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge on the Pattullo Bridge Replacement project in British Columbia

Feb 13, 2026

Toronto, Ontario – February 13, 2026: Aecon Group Inc. (TSX: ARE) (“Aecon”) was pleased to join Fraser Crossing Partners and the Province of British Columbia to celebrate the opening of the stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview) Bridge, providing a modernized connection between Surrey and New Westminster.

The new, four-lane, cable-stayed bridge replaces the nearly 90-year-old Pattullo Bridge over the Fraser River and features wider lanes for passenger and commercial vehicles, a centre safety median barrier, and dedicated walking and cycling lanes. Improvements to the connecting roadways on the north and south sides of the bridge were also completed.

“Aecon is incredibly proud to deliver the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge on behalf of the Province of B.C., a vital crossing that will improve reliability, enhance safety and provide an improved east-to-west corridor for the communities of Surrey and New Westminster,” said Jean-Louis Servranckx, President and Chief Executive Officer, Aecon Group Inc. “The opening of the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge marks the culmination of years of dedication, problem-solving, and collaboration across every part of the Fraser Crossing Partners team working alongside the Province.”

“Over the course of the project, our team has navigated complexity and prioritized safety – harnessing technical expertise, innovation, and precision to achieve this incredible milestone,” said Scott Marshall, Senior Vice President, Major Projects, Civil West, Aecon Group Inc. “The delivery and opening of the stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge underscore the team’s skill, determination, and unwavering focus day in and day out.”

With the new bridge open, Fraser Crossing Partners is now focused on finishing activities to complete the project, including the removal of the existing Pattullo Bridge.

Quick Facts:

  • 332-meter main span over the Fraser River
  • 1,235 total metres long
